Laying it on the line…

I recently had a discussion with someone who is one of my most influential bloggers, it was the eve of the midnight release or thereabout and we were talking about what would he would be doing in Cataclysm. The conversation drifted to us discussing what we want to do vs. what we see our expectations being set as as bloggers. Recently, viewers and readers to my sight have been slightly above normal given the expansion release but I want to let you all know what you can expect from me. What to expect from me as a blogger…what to expect from me as a player…what to expect from me as a Paladin…and even what to expect from me as a Guild Master; because the expectations I set will be from a perspective that will still maximize my enjoyment and entertainment while not letting you down because you don’t see what you expected you might.

First as a player and a paladin my goal is not to 85 as fast as I can. I don’t want to get to the end goal and two months down the line out of at least 24 be wondering what to do next. I have legitimate joy right now balancing the “Characters to be leveled” list with three 80s and a slew of freshly rolled alts I had been waiting for. I want to get to 85 and experience the first tier of end game content or heroics but I never want to feel about heroics like I did in Wrath again, so if I can hold that off just a while longer…I will. As a paladin, I want to know if the healing at 83+ is better than healing Wrath content was, because I will admit I didn’t like it. The mechanics were built for a different style of damage and while there were those that perservered and succeeded, I went back to melee dps for a few go’s, but I never tried for the Lich King again after the release of 4.0.3. I was out of the Wrath mindset and much too excited for the characters I would be rolling soon. I was still okay with the progress I had made. I saw the inside of most tiers of end-game content and finished completely Naxxramas and TOC. I also finished OS and Malygos but never RS.

As a blogger, you can expect to see the same things you have been seeing. Lately, I have slacked off on the emphasis of holy paladining because the basis or the foundation wasn’t changing but as of this moment you will still see this information. It will range from leveling a new alt to leveling out of 80 and when I get there, healing at 85. There is so much I can talk about when it comes to being a holy paladin and if it comes down the line that I won’t be healing any more…not saying this is the case btw…you will be the first to know. But in addition to that, you can expect to see fun tales of that worgen I rolled or here me talk and go on about just how much FUN I had starting a goblin…which btw, if you haven’t done it, do it!

And on top of all of those expectations, I am still guild master to a wonderful guild <Age of the Phoenix>. We are about to hit Level 2 and I have responsibility to them. But like I explained to my friend, I am not setting any goals for them…they can level when they want, they can level what they want or not even buy Catacylysm at all right now because what I am stressing us to do as a guild is be happy…the theme for us right now is CHOICE. We even opened an alliance sister guild for those who wanted to roll worgen because we support them in whatever they do. I would LOVE to post about the guild interface and changes to guilds and I will, it is a facet of who I am as a player, but right now, I am going to go play instead. I don’t what I will do today, but it will be something that won’t ding me 85 (maybe 82…possibly) I am pretty certain of that.

I would very much like to take this time to redirect you to some of the posts that you will find extremely helpful in your paladining that cover healing through the Wrath content and level 80:

You can expect to see the same hodge podge of posts you have been seeing but I won’t be pushing to 85 so you won’t see end game Paladin stuff until I am there. I want to have fun not burn out too early and be done with the experience. Don’t forget I am a GM so you will more than likely see stuff on that too!

Tuesday with Tarinae: Cataclysm 12/7

Well the day has finally come when the expansion is live. We have waited for this day for a while now and I would love to have introduced it as the end of the world, but we know that The Shattering has already happened, Deathwing is out and about killing people with his wings of flaming death but yet here we are, still waiting but the wait is over. Regardless of whether or not you bought the Digital Download, the Collector’s Edition, or physical DVD’s you still had to wait until that lucky moment of 12:01 AM in the Pacific Time Zone. For me, that meant that I wasn’t able to play until 3AM, and I’m okay with that, I have taken the day off work, and for approximately 24 hours will be pretending that nothing else exists.

Last Tuesday I asked for submissions about what everyone will be doing today (or this morning) because there are a plethora of options available. Are you going to be a Realm First Illustrious Grand Master? Are you going to be one of the 2×10^45 worgen or goblins in the starting zones? Are you heading to Hyjal or one of the other zones to work to 85? Are you exploring the zones? What about archaeology? Will you immediately train flying in Azeroth?

I am sure I can keep going with the options but instead of asking the questions, I will jump right into what people are saying for their answers. As for me, I will be starting a worgen initially then I will work to find a delicate balance between 85 and my 1200×10^20 alts that may currently exist. I am very excited to fly in Azeroth; can you imagine the screenshot opportunities?

Allexant of Shadow Council-US  & Lou will be leveling worgens; a priest and druid respectively.

Gazimoff has told the mage forums his launch day plans:

I’ll probably be hitting the Tailoring and Enchanting trainers first before diving into Vashj’ir. My first aim will be to get to 81 and start running the Throne of the Tides as soon as possible.

Jaedia says:

Move over to Hyjal/Vashjnir and QUEST LIKE A BITCH :3 *ahem* level my Priest speedily.

Rades has an interesting take on the experience:

I will be making a new goblin and worgen. Questing can wait, but that initial swarm of excited ppl won’t! One-time experience!

Moody is…

Going to try to get up to 85 first. May take breaks to start a goblin and a worgen.

AF Guildmate @Zombiegopher says:

Probably 85 first, with dungeons on the way. Unless the 80-81 zones are so packed it drives me insane. 😛

Tasha will be joining me…

I’ll be rolling my Worgen Warrior and playing through the starting zone then showing my favorite warrior Aleksondra some love.

R&R’s Angelya comments:

As soon as midnight PST strikes however (6pm at my place), I’ll be on my Druid, heading for Mount Hyjal :) Can’t wait!

Fobok blogs that his plans are to get his paladin to 85 and he discusses there just how he is going to do that!

My loving boyfriend says:

I’m going to be waving to all of my friends from puppy land.

Psynister makes me smile:

My plan is to roll more toons so that I can delete more toons…in order to yet, roll more toons!

And after a great chat with Cynwise, he has decided that he has not decided.

So there you have it, what your friends around the WoW community will be doing come this Tuesday, whether it be 3AM or 6PM, we will all be finding our very own ways o enjoy this game. As far as I am aware, race changes will be available to the new races upon the release of Cataclysm but there are not Realm First racials any more to compensate for race changes.

If I don’t see you in game, I would still love to know what you have been up to today or what you will be up to!

I hope you all enjoy the expansion release day!

((PS. I just threw in random block quotes to break up the text a little bit, blocking it all made it very spacey!))

The Cataclysm Line Experience

Only three people deep, I have successfully been in this line for 2.25 hours and my feet have gotten sore and I am horribly bored.

I stood in line for CE:Wrath for 15 hours and had a blast watching Kung Fu Panda and eating Subway in lay away. After a while we had a little group chatting it up…even if they were elitist.

But what has the digital download done to the “standing in line” experience? Virtually ruined it…see what I did there?!?

Even when you pre order you get to stand in line for the handout buy when you go digital why leave the comfort o your own home?

When you live in major cities where awesome events are occurring (can’t link at the moment) then the draw to go out is there but what about in cities like mine, it is just depressing and freaking zero degrees with windchill.

So here I am, sitting with Paul and another gentleman either waiting for the big crowd boom or to go home…at which point I will be forced to wait three more hours to play!

What. A. Day.

Late Night with Tarinae 11/30

Thank you for joining me on this last day of November. I apologize that this will be short but I really want to log in and shame on me for not having this post scheduled but I had some errands to run this evening after work. I must make haste…my baby durid is calling for me!

A Call for Submissions

Next week is…*drumroll*…Cataclysm! I would very much like to have some input from my readers on what you guys will be doing first. As of right now I feel that I will probably be rolling Naylana the worgen…I don’t know what class she will be but I have a feeling that will be what I do first. Then Tarinae will have some love.

Please feel free to leave a comment here or email me! Make sure to note if you want your response to be anonymous! 🙂

Technically speaking, I won a bet at work and I only have to work half the day so I will have some extra time eevn if I do have to take a small break. Yay for Cataclysm! That leads me to my next question!

How are you upgrading?

The Overlore’s

Soooo…did you know that I am going to co-host a podcast? Yeah, it’s lore and leveling focus. 4 co-hosts and myself will take our little 5-man band of misfits and wind our way through the world of Azeroth. The Overlore’s is a Twisted Nether Production! Be on the lookout here for more details and information on recordings! You will be able to find us on Gilneas-US Alliance.  (PS. I will do this in an official nice post explaining it all, I promise!)

I guess that is it for now. Have I mentioned I really want to play?

Cataclysm: Build 13221

Right now, my outlook on this whole thing is pretty pessimistic, the admittance that “our strengths” aren’t available at Level 80 has left me hopeless. But, in the end, Cataclysm is barely over a month away and the changes that are coming with this build are eye-popping, hope generating, amazing. So let’s give this blog some good overtones and take a look!

  • Holy Radiance‘s effectiveness now diminish on targets farther than x yards away.
  • Divine Light base healing has been increased by 30%. From 8538-9512 to 11100-12366
  • Flash of Light base healing has been increased by 30%. From 5313-5961 to 6907-7750.
  • Holy Shock base healing has been increased by 30%. From 3033-3285 to 3943-4271.
  • Holy Light base healing has been increased by 30%. From 3202-3567 to 4162-4637.
  • Beacon of Light now lasts 5 min, up from 1 min.
  • Mastery: Illuminated Healing now absorbs 10% of the amount healed, up from 8%. Now lasts 8 sec, up from 6 sec. Each point of mastery increases the absorb amount by an additional 1.25%, up from 1%.
  • Lay on Hands no longer restores mana.
  • Holy Wrath now scales from 61% of SpellPower, up from 30%. Base damage reduced by 22%, from 3122 to 2435.
  • Exorcism now scales from 34.4% of SpellPower or AP, up from 15%. Base damage increased by 15% from 2343 to 2741.

HOLY COCOBONGOS FLASHLIGHT BATMAN! Those caps are a moment of squee for the sheer look at those base numbers. This brings the total buff to over 40% for most of the healing spells. I believe Word of Glory was included in the hotfix but not listed with the builds.

The change to Beacon of Light, as one of my readers, Thoger, states will make the glyph obsolete. You mean to tell me, after two years I get this glyph and it is worthless! Darn. But I like the change, it isn’t a GCD wasted every 1-1.5 (depending on glyphs). What does the new glyph do?

So, at a 5-minute duration, the expense of mana shouldn’t be a concern a given a genuine low mana cost at 6% base mana. This change can be easily handled if you recall my recent glyph analysis and see the recommendation that Glyph of Cleansing can be beneficial in it’s reduced mana cost; the mana cost for Cleanse is 14% base mana, more than double that of a 5-minute Beacon.

The change to Lay on Hands means that it can no longer be used as a form of Innervate as I have heard of it being used. This also means that the glyph has been changed. In live, it stands to return us with as much mana as it returns to the target. The new updated glyph? Simply returns 10% mana to us when cast. That is equal to the base return of Divine Plea, without the healing reduction, but with an 8-11 minute CD.

And as if Mastery wasn’t good already, the increase the amount absorbed by 2% and every point of mastery another .25! And the duration! I would like to point out that the duration of the buff as it stood was the CD of HS so by the time it would fall off, we could get another buff on the target, but this way, there will be some overlap with casting times and other situationals. This is a good time to remind you that to gain a point of mastery rating (1.25% increased absorption) you have to have ~46 Mastery Points.

And finally, the changes to the damaging spells don’t necessarily effect us, but if you foresee yourself leveling as Holy, this is a nice buff to the drab and long-winded holy “DPS” rotation for leveling.

Could all of this mean…that we aren’t broken at 85? Only time shall tell since I am not a beta participant, but we shall see in the end!

And as always, it is important to credit the sources used, so you can find the full details for all classes and specs with this build at MMO-Champion, but when clicking that link, please be aware that it may contain spoilers as there are some very vivid images as you click. We’ve seen the release of the Cataclysm Launcher, and video and image coverage of the Login screen are available as well as dance information, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!

PS. Stay turned for a post, deeply explaining my horrible amount of pessimism.
PPS. Yes, my Light of Dawn is macro’d to /s Holy Flashlight, Batman!

Tuesday with Tarinae 10/19

Wow, it feels like it has been so long since I did I a Tuesday post but it really has just been a week. Last Tuesday we saw the dropping of 4.0.1 and our playing styles changed forever. I estimate that we have a month to get used to it before everything changes…forever. But let’s go ahead and get started, shall we?

Hey new readers!

Okay, I cannot lie. I am pretty excited about all the traffic this patch brought to this blog. A couple of days ago I soared to a near record views of over 1500; just 80 views shy of when I was linked on wow.com for my Children’s Week PVP post…and this time…I did it all by myself. After all that, I haven’t had any negativity but it is sad to see it begin to ebb around the 500s now that the initial shock has worn off. All the same, I want everyone to know that I appreciate them and welcome them to check this place out, there is a lot of cool stuff to be had as I get one more post closer to 100 (Ps. this is 99!). You can always feel free to contact me with the links on the left sidebar, I’m open for discussions!

Heart-Warming to Heart-Wrenching

It is no secret that Zul’Gurub is being removed from the game when the world changes (expect this with 4.0.1) and I, having finally done it, have decided to make it the goal to earn Exalted before it is gone. Going from Neutral to 1166 into Revered since the day before the patch, I have spent a lot of money but I have a lot of cool EPICZ that will no longer be available and have genuinely had a lot of fun with it. I enjoy the Troll race and the voodoo and recently read Kurn’s “Requiem” and was able to know even more about it. It really is a blast to run even if I always forget one boss and it could drop a mount, who knows!

Cataclysm Cinematic Intro

Obviously…this has spoilers…but if you’re anything like me you watch them over and over the way it is, so I myself, indulged.

It just absolutely astounds me. The graphics and cinematography are out of the world! You can also find the TV spot that aired this Sunday there too!

In my vain attempts to not reveal my thoughts of paladin healing in raid, or a series of Blue Posts regarding the issues, I am going to promptly end this. It would nto make sense to tell you all the gushy rants details now. So…I’m off to indulge myself in watching the cinematic again!.

PS. I know this is another crappy Tuesday post. Don’t hate me. I love you! 🙂

The Healadin in 13066 & 13536

Okay, it is time to take a look at what I have gotten behind in over the past week. There is a CataBuild (13066) and PTR Patch 13156 that I have been missing lately!

I’m just going to jump right into the small amount of changes for Holy that come from this build. These changes are neutral and minimal.

  • Spiritual Focus no longer gives you hit based on your Spirit. Renamed to Paragon of Virtue – Reduces the cooldown of your Divine Protection by 10/20 sec and the cooldown of your Avenging Wrath by 30/60 sec.
  • Enlightened Judgements now also grants hit rating equal to 50/100% of any Spirit gained from items or effects.

We keep the hit rating aspect of Spiritual Focus, and the cooldown on Avenging Wrath is beneficial, it can now, at 2/2, match with the cooldown on Divine Plea, which we can remember the cooldown being doubled and its effectiveness cut in half. Otherwise, being able to take less damage at a quicker CD, can help save lives, especially with all of our passive healing to self.

A side-note from 13082

  • Rule of Law no longer increases the critical effect chance of Holy Shock, affects Hammer of the Righteous instead.

While this change does remove some of the healing utility from the talent, we can still gain benefits from its remaining effects on Word of Glory.

I think it is great to see something direct (i.e. healing) been increased. For far too long we have seen increased cooldowns, decreased mana tools, etc. These changes affect our our overall healing in a positive manner but I still struggle with the fact that we have far too many buttons that do too similar things.

In previous attempts, a HS+HL could accomplish the same thing that one expensive FoL could pull off. The effectiveness of my go-to-heal in Wrath is babified in the face of its successor, Divine Light. I equate the use of these heals to the Priest series: Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal, etc. They massively buffed our healing arsenal but didn’t do anything radical to change it. Will it be worth casting fast, expensive…or slow and hefty…or eat up that Holy Power.

Note the major change in this build from the last one is I removed a point from Protector of the Innocent and Aura Mastery to get 2/2 in Paragon of Virtue, as of right now that is the only change until they decided our remaining points don’t need to be so “cookie-cutter” (source).

Well there you have it, the latest changes for those of us who call ourselves healadins and maybe someday soon we will get to test it out!
